Speech-Language Pathologist Careers

Very few states in the United States do not have licensing requirements for people working as speech-language pathologists. Even in those states, however, the vast majority of speech professionals hold master's degrees or have equivalent qualifications, because most insurers will not reimburse people who hire non-licensed speech pathologists. To begin a career in states that do have licensing requirements, this level of education is mandatory.

In addition to extensive formal education, most speech-language pathology professionals are required to work under professional supervision for approximately 375 hours before working on their own. After obtaining a master's degree, completing their supervised field training, and passing the Praxis Series test, those who wish to pursue speech-language pathologist careers can obtain a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP).

Since speech pathology is an evolving science, professionals are expected to continue their educations throughout their careers. Nearly forty states go so far as to require speech pathologists to periodically apply for license renewal. Education and training, however, are only two qualifications. Perhaps the most important skills in this profession are patience and caring.

If you meet these requirements, Rehab Options USA is the best place to search for jobs throughout the country.
